It was the second time the two were selected to host the event and according to Tina Fey, their presence is not a coincidence.

“This is Hollywood, and if something kinda works they’ll just keep doing it until everybody hates it,” she said.

“No offense to the movies and nominees last year but this year is legit!” she added. “There are so many stars in the room tonight, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed.”

“You’re basically a garbage person,” Poehler said, looking at Damon, who laughed at the joke with his wife, Luciana.

“Meryl Streep is here,” Fey said. “So brilliant in August: Osage County, proving that there are still great parts in Hollywood … for Meryl Streeps over 60.”

Bradley Cooper, who was nominated for best supporting actor, was also targeted.

“Bradley Cooper is here, star of American Hustle. Interesting trivia: The original title of that movie was Explosion at the Wig Factory,” Tina quipped.

The hosts didn’t ignore Julia Louis-Dreyfus either. The actress was nominated for her roles in both the Veep series and Enough Said.

“Interestingly, Julia has chosen to sit in the film section,” the actresses said. “Hi, Julia. Hi, Julia. You know us from TV.”

“Gravity is nominated for Best Film. It’s the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age [Sandra Bullock],” Tina Fey commented on Best Motion Picture Drama nominee Gravity, causing amusement in room.

The two women also highlighted Matthew McConaughey’s amazing weight loss for “Dallas Buyers Club.”

“Matthew McConaughey did amazing work this year. For his role in Dallas Buyers Club, he lost 45 pounds. Or what actresses call ‘being in a movie,’” Fey joked.

Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for best actor for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street and the two hosts welcomed the actor with a joke.

“And now, like a supermodel’s va–na,” Fey began, “let’s all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio.”

Woody Allen, who received the Cecil B. Demille Award, and Martin Scorsese were distinctively presented by Poehler, who joked: “I assume the award is for tiniest man with the biggest glasses.”
